1. Rückblick und Ausblick
2006 war sowohl für die Freie-Software-Gemeinschaft als auch für die FSFE ein spannendes Jahr.
Die Free Software Foundation Europe war und ist auch heute noch an der Erstellung der neuen GPL beteiligt, der weltweit erfolgreichsten Lizenz für Freie Software, sie unterstützt die Europäischen Kommission bei ihren Bemühungen, Microsoft daran zu hindern, ihr Monopol zu missbrauchen, und sie beteiligte sich bei dem World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) der Vereinten Nationen (UN), dem Internet Governance Forum (IGF) der UN, der World Intellectual Property Organsiation (WIPO) und bei dem von der EU unterstützen Projekt "Scientific Education and Learning in Freedom" (SELF). Des Weiteren hat die FSFE die Hauptinitiative übernommen, um drm.info zu starten, ein Portal über die Gefahren von Digitalem Restriktionsmanagement.
Das wahrscheinlich wichtigste Projekt für das nächste Jahr wird die Freedom Task Force (FTF) sein. Die FTF bietet Unterstützung bei Fragen zu Freie-Software-Lizenzen. Dazu gehören Aufklärung, treuhänderische Dienste sowie das Durchsetzen von Lizenzen.
2007 wird ein wichtiges Jahr für Freie Software: Immer mehr große Unternehmen (z.B. Sun und Novell) setzen bei einem wachsenden Anteil ihrer Aktivitäten auf Freie Software. Dadurch spielen einzelne Entscheidungen dieser Unternehmen eine immer größere Rolle, sowohl im positiven als auch im negativen Sinn. Die Existenz einer unabhängigen Organisation wie der FSFE, welche sich auf die langfristigen Ziele konzentriert, ist für das Gleichgewicht im Freien-Software-Ökosystem entscheidend.
2. Georg Greve bei "Nexell informiert"
Georg Greve hielt in Zürich während der Veranstaltung "Nexell informiert" einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "What is Free Software and are Free Software solutions professional enough for our daily business?". "Nexell informiert" ist ein von Nexell organisiertes Treffen, auf dem Experten eingeladen werden, um über Freie Software zu referieren und um ein Bewusstsein dafür zu schaffen. Nexell besteht aus einem unabhängigen Team von internationalen und mehrsprachigen CRM-Experten.
3. Werde aktiv: Tritt dem Fellowship bei!
Das Fellowship der FSFE ist eine Gemeinschaft für Freiheit im digitalen Zeitalter. Der Beitritt zum Fellowship ist der einfachste und direkteste Weg, um die Free Software Foundation Europe und Freie Software im allgemeinen zu unterstützen. Fellows helfen auf drei Arten: finanziell, sie erhöhen das Gewicht der Stimme der FSFE und - wenn sie wollen - durch die Arbeit die sie leisten.
Die FSFE stellt den Fellows eine Infrastruktur zur Verfügung, die es ihnen ermöglicht, aktiv zu werden und sich zu koordinieren. Dazu gehört ein Weblog auf fsfe.org, eine E-Mail Weiterleitung, ein Jabber-Zugang und Ad-Hoc-Mailinglisten.
Aber das wahrscheinlich interessanteste, was die Fellows von der FSFE bekommen, ist eine personalisierte OpenPGP-Crypto-Card. Damit kann jeder Fellow seine Freiheit und Privatsphäre schützen.
