En Amsterdam, la Freedom Task Force de la FSFE alojó al primer seminario europeo sobre legalidad y licencias, llegando a un amplio concenso, entre los participantes europeos, en los métodos para mejorar la infraestructura legal del Software Libre en Europa. En Brasil, la 9ª Conferencia FISL proporcionó un foro para discutir sobre la adopción y evolución de las tecnologías libres.
También estuvieron activos los voluntarios de la FSFE y de la Fellowship. En Berlín los Fellows tuvieron un estand en una fiesta de lanzamiento de una distribución, y los voluntarios italianos trabajaron para construir una infraestructura que asegure la viabilidad de su equipo.

1. El taller de la FTF llega a un extenso acuerdo en la infraestructura de las licencias en Europa.
El taller sobre legalidad y licencias en Europa de la Freedom Task Force de la FSFE obtuvo una discusión muy productiva, alcanzando un extenso concenso entre los participantes, tanto los comerciales como los no comerciales, en importantes áreas de la licenciación del Software Libre. El evento tuvo lugar a principios de abril en Amsterdam y llenamos el aforo. Shane Coughlan, coordinador de la FTF, declaró «esto marca un ejemplo de la madurez del crecimiento del Software Libre en Europa. Tenemos un gran concenso para asegurar la fortaleza de las infraestructuras de apoyo de la comunidad; pero como este seminario ha demostrado, el deseo y la habilidad para crear la infraestructura está presente en todos los participantes». En breve se publicará la documentación sobre el seminario.
2. La falta de calidad es un serio problema en la estandarización
La FSFE publicó sus "seis preguntas a los cuerpos nacionales de estandarización" antes del voto del 2 de septiembre del año pasado [1]. Teniendo en cuenta las declaraciones hechas sobre el MS-OOXML, uno podría esperar que al menos una de estas preguntas tuviera una respuesta satisfactoria», declaró Matthias Kirschner, coordinador en Alemania de la FSFE. Y añadió: «Por desgracia no es el caso. Temas como "el falso convertidor" [2] y las "preguntas acerca los formatos abiertos" [2] aún tienen la misma validez. Como los documentos "caducado antes de usarse" [4] y "el infortunio de la interoperatividad con OOXML" [5] han demostrado, la interoperatividad del MS-OOXML es muy limitada en comparación con los estándares abiertos. Además de todo lo anterior, están las preocupaciones legales que distintos grupos han presentado [6].».
El vicepresidente de la FSFE Jonas Öberg comentó: «los gobiernos han de comenzar a preguntarse cual es el significado real de aprobar una norma ISO. Tal como se demostró con los estándares MPEG, no quiere decir que sea un estándar abierto.».

3. La licenciación como un imperativo estratégico, discurso en el FISL
Shane Coughlan, coordinador de la FTF de la FSFE, dio una charla sobre la importancia estratégica de las licenciación del Software Libre en el FISL de este año en Porte Alegre, Brasil. El FISL ha crecido, quizá hasta ser el mayor evento de Software Libre en el mundo. Este año asistieron 7.000 personas, incluyendo destacados conferenciantes como Jon «Maddog» Hall, Theodore Ts'o de la Linux Foundation y Mitchell Baker de la Mozilla Corporation. También estuvieron presentes caras europeas bien conocidas, como Knut Yrvin, de Trolltech, y Bram Moolenarr, creador de VIM.
4. Un grupo de la Fellowship en el fiesta de presentación de Ubuntu en Berlín
El grupo de Berlín de la Fellowship asistió a la presentación en la cbase de Berlín de «Hardy Heron»; allí realizaron una charla del Fellow Torsten Grote sobre Gobuntu, un sistema operativo GNU/Linux cuyo objetivo es ser completamente libre, y la importancia del Software Libre en general. Aunque Ubuntu no es enteramente Software Libre, ha ayudado bastante a acercar el Software Libre a mucha gente. El grupo también disponía de un estand, que atrajo a interesados en aprender acerca el Software Libre. El grupo de la Fellowship de Berlín quiere crear e impulsar discusiones sobre nuestro objetivo de tener el Software Libre al 100% disponible para todo el mundo.
