Microsoft sést acharné à proposer toute une série d'arrangements financiers aux défenseurs de l'affaire déntrave à la concurrence de la Commission Européenne, pour qu'ils se désistent. Après Sun Microsystems, ce sont maintenant Novel et la CCIA qui ont accepté de retirer leur plainte en échange de compensations financières.
A la lumière de ces derniers événements, la FSFE tient à renouveler son SOUTIEN à la Commission Européenne au sujet de cette affaire déntrave à la concurrence qui devrait faire jurisprudence et dont on attend une décision très prochainement. La liste des soutiens à lénquête peut diminuer, mais la FSFE et l'Association pour l'Industrie du Logiciel et de l'Information (SIIA) sont toujours partie prenante de cette affaire, et se battent au nom des consommateurs européens. La détermination de la FSFE, ainsi que son appui à la Commission, ne sont pas entamées par ces récents évènements.
« Tout l'argent du monde ne pourrait pas acheter notre retrait de cette affaire. Mon client ne sést pas engagé dans cette affaire par intérêt personnel. Notre but est d'aider la Commission à rétablir quelques-unes des libertés du marché et de rétablir la concurrence disparue ces dernières années », explique Carlo Piana, qui représente la FSFE dans cette affaire.
"En coopération avec l'équipe de SAMBA, nous pensons avoir fait du très bon travail jusqu'à présent et nous continuerons nos efforts pour le bien de ceux qu'on oublie trop facilement apparemment -- les développeurs de logiciels libres et les consommateurs européens", ajoute Georg Greve, président de la Free Software Foundation Europe.
Georg Greve précise : "nous sommes entièrement financés par les dons, et sommes engagés dans cette lutte parce que nous pensons que cést ce qu'il faut faire pour nos soutiens et pour l'Europe. Nous ne renoncerons pas à ce combat."
"Pour l'équipe de Samba, il s'agit de faire remonter le niveau du jeu, et déncourager Microsoft à utiliser des standards ouverts d'utilisation libre dans ses produits" a indiqué Volker Lendecke et John Terpstra de l'équipe de Samba. "nous soutenons entièrement la FSFE et la Commission Européenne dans leur démarche, et continuerons à mettre en lumière la façon dont Microsoft a usé de sa position dominante pour empêcher l'interopérabilité des logiciels et affaiblir la concurrence en Europe."
