Dichiarazione di Stanca: le associazioni condividono.
Il capitolo italiano della Free Software Foundation Europe, L'Associazione Software Libero, Italian Linux Society, il progetto LinuxDidattica e il gruppo Pluto condividono pienamente la posizione del Ministero per l'Innovazione e le Tecnologie espressa nel comunicato del 13 Maggio scorso riguardo alla Direttiva in materia di brevettabilità del software, la cui discussione si terrà presso il Consiglio Competitività il 17 p.v.
Il Ministro Lucio Stanca nel testo ricorda ai colleghi Ministri Buttiglione, Marzano e Moratti il principio di non brevettabilità del software in quanto tale, sottolineando i rischi che l'adozione di un regime brevettuale comporterebbe per il tessuto imprenditoriale nazionale.
Inoltre, si evidenzia come l'adozione della Direttiva, così come proposta dalla presidenza irlandese, privata degli emendamenti democraticamente discussi ed approvati dal Parlamento Europeo il 24 settembre scorso, rappresenti una grave minaccia in quanto consente la brevettabilità di formati e protocolli con la conseguenza - estremamente verosimile - di favorire lo sviluppo di monopoli de iure.
Il documento elaborato dal Ministro, nel rispetto del pluralismo informatico, in chiusura ricorda che il regime brevettuale consentirebbe di fatto un freno, se non un blocco, allo sviluppo e la diffusione di soluzioni basate su software libero ed open source, riconosciuto dalla stessa UNESCO come un bene dell'Umanità.

L'Associazione Software Libero è una entità legale senza scopo di lucro che ha come obiettivi principali la diffusione del software libero in Italia ed una corretta informazione sull'argomento.

ILS (Italian Linux Society) è un'associazione senza fine di lucro che dal 1994 promuove e sostiene iniziative e progetti in favore della diffusione di GNU/Linux e del software libero in Italia, con lo scopo di divulgare la cultura informatica nel nostro paese.
* Che cos'è LinuxDidattica
LinuxDidattica è un progetto attivo dal 1997 per la diffusione del software libero nella scuola italiana.
* Che cos'è il Pluto
Il PLUTO Project è un gruppo di persone che dal 1992 si propone di promuovere software libero rispondente alle linee guida del progetto GNU. Tale obiettivo viene perseguito mediante progetti come il PLUTO Journal, ILDP, PLUTO-ReFUN, quest'ultimo in collaborazione con il Museo Didattico di Storia dell'Informatica FMACU-UNESCO.
