Ottobre ha segnato l'inizio di una fase di pianificazione per FSFE. Oltre ad organizzare le campagne del prossimo anno, stiamo lavorando ad alcune iniziative per la prossima stagione festiva. Parallelamente alle discussioni interne, stiamo chiedendo alla comunità di proporre idee a proposito di eventi e incontri della Fellowship. Non c'è ancora niente di concreto, dunque se avete buone idee, iscrivetevi alle nostre liste pubbliche e fateci conoscere le vostre proposte!
Un cambiamento secondario è che, a partire da questo mese, Shane passerà a me il compito di scrivere newsletter. Grazie a Shane per quasi due anni di newsletter! Non vedo l'ora di scrivere quella del prossimo mese, e se avete suggerimenti su come modificare il formato, fatemi sapere contattandomi presso ciaran[a]fsfe.org.

1. Il lavoro nel caso Antitrust porta i suoi frutti
A un anno di distanza dalla vittoria nella causa decisiva, FSFE è lieta di sapere che il team di sviluppo di Samba sta ricevendo da Microsoft utili informazioni per l'interoperabilità. L'obiettivo di FSFE è sempre stato di assicurare che gli sviluppatori di Software Libero beneficiassero di ogni informazione rilasciata. Questo risultato arriva dopo 5 anni di lavoro da parte di FSFE, del Samba team e di altre organizzazioni.

2. Interviste della Fellowship: Rolf Camps
Abbiamo intervistato Rolf Camps per scoprire cosa motivi i volontari e come questi possano partecipare. Rolf è chiaramente uno dei nostri traduttori più attivi, quindi ci ha parlato di cosa richiede questo lavoro, e della diffusione del Software Libero in Belgio.

3. Licenze di Software Libero e Net TV in Italia
Shane Coughlan, coordinatore di FTF, ha partecipato alla 'Conferenza IP-TV 2.0' a Roma il 15 Ottobre per tenere un discorso dal titolo "L'implicazione delle licenze del Software Libero per il futuro dell' IPTV." Questo evento è stato organizzato dalla Telematics Freedom Foundation, diretta da Rufo Guerreschi. A presiedere l'evento è stato Arturo Di Corinto, Professore di Scienze della Comunicazione all'Università La Sapienza di Roma. La partecipazione del pubblico è stata notevole e ci sono state alcune discussioni piuttosto animate. Gran parte del pubblico era ancora poco informata sul Software Libero, e le opinioni sull'importanza e l'impatto di una maggiore libertà in questo campo erano abbastanza divise.

4. Dietro le quinte della Freedom Task Force
Ciaran O'Riordan, Ambasciatore della Fellowship di FSFE, ha pubblicato un interessante articolo [1] sulla Freedom Task Force (FTF), il progetto legale di FSFE. Ciaran ha descritto le principali aree di lavoro di FTF, tra cui la costruzione della rete legale e tecnica sul Software Libero di maggior successo al mondo, far rispettare la GPL in collaborazione con gpl-violations.org [2], e offrire il supporto per le licenze ai progetti di Software Libero. Shane Coughlan, Coordinatore di FTF, è impegnato anche nel fornire a terze parti consulenza e formazione sulle migliori pratiche nel campo delle licenze e sulle decisioni relative alla policy.
La FTF è attiva dietro le quinte di molte questioni legali e politiche riguardanti il Software Libero, e l'articolo di Ciaran offre un raro spunto sui progressi di una delle più importanti iniziative di FSFE in questo campo. L'articolo ha ricevuto una copertura mediatica significativa, apparendo su Slashdot, Free Software Daily, FOSS Bazaar, Linux.com e LWN.net.

5. Incontro della Fellowship a Ginevra
Il 19 Ottobre, 13 Fellow si sono incontrati a Ginevra. Ciaran O'Riordan e Benjamin Morant erano là per conto di FSFE per informarsi sui gruppi e sulle attività locali relative al Software Libero, e per rispondere a domande sulla FSFE e discutere delle prossime campagne. Crediamo che questo sia stato il primo incontro francofono della Fellowship e non vediamo l'ora di partecipare a molti altri.

6. Incontro della Fellowship, Bolzano, Italia (2008-11-15)
Sabato 15 Novembre alle 14:00 ci sarà un incontro della Fellowship presso il TIS Innovation Park di Bolzano. L'incontro è rivolto ai Fellow e a tutte le persone interessate a temi come la presenza in Italia di FSFE ed il progetto della Fellowship. L'incontro è diviso in due parti. Nella prima, Patrick Ohnewein, coordinatore del gruppo italiano di FSFE, parlerà di FSFE in Italia e della Fellowship. Nella seconda parte, i Fellow sono invitati a discutere e proporre delle iniziative da portare avanti con l'aiuto degli altri Fellow, in favore del Software Libero.
7. Incontro della Fellowship, Colonia, Germania (2008-11-18)
Martedì 18 novembre alle 19.00, ancora una volta i Fellow e le persone che vogliono sostenere FSFE o, semplicemente, informarsi sul Software Libero, si incontreranno a Colonia nell'Hallmackenreuther in Brüsseler Platz per l'incontro della Fellowship.
