1. IPRED2 - il nuovo attacco alla libertà
La Commissione Europea ha recentemente pubblicato una proposta per una seconda direttiva sulla salvaguardia dei "diritti sulla proprietà intellettuale". Il testo propone che la maggior parte delle violazioni di brevetti, copyright e marchi registrati siano considerate reati penali. Sarebbero punibili inoltre l'aiuto, l'incoraggiamento o l'incitamento a tali pratiche. Richiedendo la reclusione, grosse ammende ed altre punizioni elevate per questi nuovi reati, questa direttiva potrebbe creare timore sufficiente a scoraggiare la partecipazione di cittadini ed imprese alla produzione ed alla distribuzione di software, e fino ad un certo punto, l'uso stesso del software e la pubblicazione di informazioni. Trasformerebbe inoltre le leggi sui brevetti, il copyright e i marchi in armi che imprese economicamente forti potrebbero utilizzare contro la concorrenza.
Ciaran O'Rioran ha pubblicato una pagina nella quale spiega come si potrebbe abusare di questa direttiva per colpire il Software Libero e cosa si può fare contro di essa.

2. Stichting NLnet dona 150.000 euro a supporto delle attività per la GPLv3
Stichting NLnet, una fondazione no-profit con sede in Olanda, ha annunciato che donerà 150.000 euro per supportare le attività sulla GPLv3 della Free Software Foundation e Free Software Foundation Europe. E' un contributo importante, col quale NLNet spera di incoraggiare altre organizzazioni a devolvere fondi per aiutare questo progetto esclusivo.
3. Alessandro Rubini in Slovenia
Alessandro Rubini ha partecipato ad una conferenza economica sul Software Libero a Portoroz, Slovenia. Ha tenuto un discorso sull'uso del Software Libero in azienda ed ha partecipato ad una tavola rotonda su come il governo dovrebbe aiutare la crescita delle imprese basate sul Software Libero. Oltre a questi impegni ufficiali, Rubini ha trascorso la maggior parte del tempo in Slovenia stabilendo contatti con altri fautori del Software Libero Sloveni e Croati.
4. Stefano Maffulli alla OpenOffice.org Conference in Slovenia
Stefano Maffulli è intervenuto alla tavola rotonda che ha chiuso OOoConf2005, la OpenOffice.org Conference svoltasi a Koper - Capodistria. Il dibattito ha toccato diversi argomenti, dalla decisione del Massachussets di adottare il formato OpenDocument, ai prossimi sviluppi di OpenOffice.org. La conferenza è stata gestita molto bene e l'ospitalità del LUG Trieste e di LUGOS (Slovenia) è stata meravigliosa.
