1. FSFE si imbatte in irregolarità nel processo di voto in sede ISO
FSFE è stata intensamente impegnata nel processo di voto in sede ISO sulla proposta del formato Office OpenXML di Microsoft, e ha scoperto serie irregolarità nel modo in cui i vari enti nazionali di standardizzazione hanno affrontato la questione. Queste irregolarità includono iscrizioni in massa di rappresentanti, conflitti di interesse, disinteresse per le preoccupazioni sollevate dalle parti, e mancanza della dovuta considerazione per questioni legali come la vaga 'Promessa di Specifiche Aperte' di Microsoft. Il presidente di FSFE Georg Greve è stato intervistato da ZDnet a proposito del processo di voto internazionale. In Svizzera, FSFE e il gruppo svizzero di utenti di Internet (SIUG) hanno presentato delle obiezioni formali al processo presso l'ente nazionale di standardizzazione, e queste sono state più tardi pubblicate da Groklaw:

3. Due giorni di Software Libero in Cile
Su invito del ministro dell'Educazione cileno e in coordinamento con la nostra organizzazione associata FSFLA e con GNU Cile, il presidente di FSFE Georg Greve ha tenuto un discorso all'Universidad Mayor e a un evento organizzato dal ministro dell'Educazione a Santiago, così come presso la biblioteca del congresso nazionale a Valparaiso. Georg Greve ha anche discusso di questioni strategiche e pratiche legate al Software Libero con il vice-ministro dell'Educazione e dell'impatto economico del Software Libero col ministro dell'Economia.
4. Il sito della Fellowship adesso supporta diverse lingue
Grazie ai contributi dei Fellow Alejandro Serrano e Ivan Cukic, e con l'aiuto di altri hacker della fellowship, fsfe.org ora permette di aggiungere contenuti in altre lingue oltre all'inglese. Per il momento sono supportate l'italiano, lo spagnolo e il tedesco, ma altre seguiranno. Gran parte del lavoro ha riguardato la modifica dell'interfaccia utente standard fornita da eZ Publish e l'inserimento di tutti i file in un repository svn. Aspettatevi altri cambiamenti e nuove funzioni nelle prossime settimane.
5. Primo incontro diffuso della Fellowship
Mentre l'incontro mensile della Fellowship a Vienna è diventato un giorno fisso nel calendario di molti Fellow austriaci, l'incontro di Agosto è stato speciale: per la prima volta, un incontro della Fellowship si è svolto in due luoghi contemporaneamente. I laboratori net.culture.labs a Vienna e a Dornbirn hanno ospitato questo evento, entrambi connessi in videoconferenza attraverso una linea internet a banda larga finanziata da Telekom Austria.

6. Il team tedesco di FSFE a FrOSCon
Grazie alle abilità organizzative di Michael Kesper, alcuni membri della squadra tedesca di FSFE hanno partecipato a FrOSCon (St. Augustin/Germany) il 25 e 26 di Agosto. Myriam Schweingruber ha tenuto un discorso dal titolo "Donne nell'IT - Punti di vista e possibili spiegazioni", e Michael Kesper ha discusso dell'interazione con altri progetti. FSFE era presente con uno stand all'ingresso della fiera dove si tenevano interventi specifici e dove era disponibile il merchandise di FSFE e della Fellowship.
7. Fellow dell'area Rhein/Ruhr tengono discorsi ogni mese
I Fellow dell'area Rhein/Ruhr organizzano incontri pubblici mensili con talk l'ultimo mercoledì di ogni mese a Dusseldorf. Ad Agosto, il Fellow Michael Stehmann, dottore in Giurisprudenza, ha parlato del nuovo paragrafo 202c del codice penale tedesco che vieta il possesso, l'uso, la pubblicazione e la distribuzione dei cosiddetti "hacker tools". Come ha affermato Michael, queste regolamentazioni sono formulate molto male, sono in pratica inutili nella loro attenzione, e potrebbero essere utilizzate come strumento di pressione contro persone innocenti. Il paragrafo 202c cerca di definire il semplice possesso di quelli che sono chiamati vagamente strumenti di analisi della rete come preparazione al crimine.

8. Costruire la Fellowship a Kaiserslautern, Heidelberg, Darmstadt e Karlsruhe
Come sapete FSFE cerca di tenersi in contatto con i suoi Fellow e di attrarne di nuovi. Un aspetto di questo lavoro vede Joachim Jakobs incontrarsi con i LUG e altri gruppi locali vicini al Software Libero a Kaiserslautern, Heidelberg, Darmstadt e Karlsruhe. Venerdì scorso ha incontrato il LUG di Landau. Landau è soltanto una piccola città ma nonostante questo c'era circa una dozzina di persone. Se siete interessati ad aiutare JJ ad organizzare una Fellowship locale in questa zona, siete pregati di contattarlo direttamente.

9. FSFE sostiene la dimostrazione "libertà invece di paura", 22 Settembre
"I gruppi per i diritti civili stanno esortando i cittadini a partecipare a una marcia di protesta contro l'eccessiva sorveglianza da parte di imprese e governi. Il 22 Settembre 2007 cittadini preoccupati scenderanno in strada con lo slogan "Libertà invece di paura - Basta alla mania della sorveglianza!". I gruppi si troveranno inizialmente a Pariser Platz (Brandenburger Tor), Berlino, alle 14.30. La sezione tedesca di FSFE ha deciso di partecipare a questa dimostrazione e chiede a tutti di unirsi.
