1. Gareth Bowker entra nell'Assemblea Generale della FSFE
La Free Software Foundation Europe è lieta di annunciare che Gareth Bowker è entrato a far parte dell'Assemblea Generale della FSFE, dopo aver lavorato per molto tempo nel team della FSFE. Con questo passo, Gareth si è assunto un impegno a lungo termine nella FSFE ed ha accettato di sostenere la responsabilità legale e politica per il lavoro della FSFE.
Il suo impegno rafforza il ruolo della FSFE nel Regno Unito ed è stato caldamente accolto da tutti i componenti del team.
2. La Free Knowledge Foundation si associa alla FSFE
La Free Knowledge Foundation, un'organizzazione non-profit spagnola, è diventata la prima organizzazione associata alla FSFE in Spagna. La FKF e la FSFE hanno in programma una stretta collaborazione su molti progetti promettenti. Il prossimo passo sarà quello di costruire un team spagnolo della FSFE.

3. Consultazioni ONU sull'Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
Tra i risultati del "World Summit on the Information Society" (WSIS) dell'ONU, c'è la richiesta da parte del segretario generale dell'ONU di organizzare consultazioni per la creazione di un "Internet Governance Forum", con lo scopo di specificare le competenze e il mandato dell'IGF. Sono emerse proposte molto diverse tra loro: per quanto riguarda l'ambito di competenza, esse variano da "solo i nomi di dominio" a "tutti gli aspetti di internet, compresi lo spam, la criminalità informatica, la privacy e le identità digitali". Per quanto riguarda il mandato, si va da "forum di discussione pubblico" a "organizzazione che decide le politiche pubbliche globali". 4. WIPO (ONU): Provisional Committee on a Development Agenda (PCDA)
Lo scorso anno, la serie di "Inter-Governmental Inter-Sessional Meeting" (IIM) su una possibile riforma della "World Intellectual Property Organisation" (WIPO) delle Nazioni Unite è finita in un impasse, soprattutto per l'opposizione degli Stati Uniti. Come risultato, l'ultima assemblea generale ha deciso di tenere due riunioni (PCDA) a Ginevra, la prima delle quali si è svolta il mese scorso. La FSFE è stata rappresentata dal suo presidente Georg Greve e dall'ex stagista, ora membro del team, Karsten Gerloff, che ha lavorato molto per sostenere una riforma del WIPO. 5. L'ufficio della FSFE trasloca a Düsseldorf
Dalla sua fondazione iniziale nel 2001, la Free Software Foundation Europe ha gestito un piccolo ufficio amministrativo presso la Villa-Vogelsang, il "Linuxhotel" di Essen. L'ufficio è stato gentilmente offerto da Reinhard Wiesemann della Villa-Vogelsang, il visionario patron della FSFE, che ha anche permesso a Martin Gerwinski di spendere parte del suo tempo lavorativo presso il Linuxhotel nelle attività d'ufficio per la FSFE, mentre il resto del lavoro è stato svolto volontariamente da Martin Gerwinski. Sia Martin che Reinhard meritano il nostro ringraziamento e il nostro apprezzamento sincero per il loro importante contributo.
Visto che la FSFE è cresciuta rapidamente durante l'anno passato, il lavoro d'ufficio è diventato troppo per essere gestito in questo modo, ed è per questo che la FSFE è lieta di presentare Rainer Kersten, che è entrato a far parte dell'organico retribuito della FSFE per occuparsi del necessario lavoro amministrativo ed ora sta aiutando il capo ufficio della FSFE Werner Koch a stabilire il nuovo ufficio a Düsseldorf.
6. Seconda riunione della Fellowship a Berlino
I Fellow di Berlino si sono riuniti per la seconda volta per discutere e coordinare le proprie attività. La FSFE accoglie con favore le iniziative organizzate dai Fellow e lavora costantemente per migliorare le infrastrutture a disposizione dei Fellow. Al momento si sta lavorando sulla possibilità di creare mailing list ad hoc e su un Wiki.
7. Causa antitrust Microsoft: 2 milioni di euro al giorno
Durante lo scorso mese, la Commissione Europea ha finalmente deciso di impedire a Microsoft di continuare ad ignorare le sanzioni antitrust e l'ha messa di fronte all'obbligo di pagare 2 milioni di euro per ogni giorno in cui essa non rispetterà la sentenza. Microsoft sta di nuovo cercando di prendere tempo, quindi la FSFE ha nuovamente preso posizione per sostenere la Commissione:

8. La FSFE al FOSDEM
Come ogni anno, la Free Software Foundation Europe ha partecipato a un classico evento Europeo: il FOSDEM di Bruxelles. Georg Greve, Ciaran O'Riordan, Henrik Sandklef, Pablo Machón e Reinhard Müller hanno presentato vari aspetti del lavoro della FSFE in una serie di brevi interventi. Volker Dormeyer, coordinatore dello stand FSFE e membro del team da lunga data, ha svolto un lavoro eccellente. Un gruppo di 16 persone della FSFE e delle sue associate, specialmente della Free Knowledge Foundation e di Guglielmo Tux, ha trasformato questo evento in un grande successo.
9. La FSFE organizza una tavola rotonda sui brevetti software a Bruxelles
Dopo essersi travestiti da "invenzioni realizzate tramite calcolatore", i brevetti software oggi si stanno insinuando tra i progetti di un "Brevetto comunitario" per cui la Commissione Europea sta cercando indicazioni. La FSFE ha colto questa opportunità per organizzare una tavola rotonda con Francisco Mingorance della BSA, Pieter Hintjens della FFII e Ciaran O'Riordan della Free Software Foundation Europe. Il giornalista tedesco Stefan Krempl ha moderato la discussione, a cui sono stati invitati i giornalisti europei.
10. Fellowship: 3 mesi di abbonamento gratis a LWN e notebook in palio!
La Fellowship della FSFE è una parte essenziale del lavoro della FSFE. Rende possibile molte delle attività che sono state descritte finora e rende visibile il numero di persone che considerano importanti questi temi. La FSFE apprezza l'aiuto e il sostegno di tutti i Fellow ed è lieta di veder crescere questa comunità per la libertà digitale.
In cambio di tutto questo sostegno, la FSFE vuole dare qualcosa che va oltre il nostro lavoro e le nostre parole.
