1. Il portale della Fellowship è migrato a eZ publish
Dopo che il portale della Fellowship è stato online per alcuni mesi con funzionalità di base, la FSFE si è accorta di non avere abbastanza risorse umane per stabilizzarlo e ampliarlo come era stato programmato in precedenza. Tuttavia, eZ systems si è offerta gentilmente di migrare il portale verso eZ publish e di aggiornarlo come contributo alla comunità del Software Libero. Ora, dopo il completamento della migrazione, il portale è più veloce e funzionale, anche se è ancora in via di sviluppo.
2. Dichiarazione congiunta di FSFE e FSF Latin America al WIPO GA
La Free Software Foundation Europe e la sua organizzazione sorella, la Free Software Foundation Latin America, hanno rilasciato una dichiarazione nei confronti dell'assemblea generale 2005 del WIPO in cui criticano fortemente gli attuali progetti sul Broadcasting Treaty. Il suddetto trattato creerebbe un altro livello di monopolio sui documenti trasmessi sotto varie forme, incluso internet: le aziende che realizzano le trasmissioni otterrebbero diritti esclusivi per 50 anni su tutte le immagini e i suoni trasmessi, senza nessun guadagno da parte della società.
Nella stessa dichiarazione, le Free Software Foundation di Europa e America Latina enfatizzano il fatto che per promuovere la creatività, la WIPO deve cercare di supportare mezzi nuovi e alternativi di incoraggiare la creatività nell'interesse dell'umanità, non aggiungere altri livelli di monopolio.

3. Workshop WSIS sulla gestione di internet e i diritti umani
Jonas Öberg ha preso parte al workshop WSIS sulla gestione di internet e i diritti umani all'Università di Uppsala in Svezia. Il workshop trattava la questione dei diritti umani in relazione al WGIG (UN Working Group for Internet Governance). Oltre a partecipare alla discussione, Jonas ha stabilito alcuni contatti interessanti.
4. Workshop sul Software Libero nelle scuole austriache
La Danibe University di Krems in Austria ha organizzato un workshop sul Software Libero nelle scuole austriache. Karin Kosina ha aperto il workshop con un'introduzione generale al Software Libero sottolineando la sua importanza nel settore scolastico.
L'incontro ha rafforzato la consapevolezza del fatto che, mentre esistono già molti gruppi locali forti, in futuro bisognerebbe concentrarsi sulla collaborazione e il coordinamento fra le attività. I partecipanti hanno già progettato di organizzare un ulteriore evento.
5. Internet Hungary 2005
Stefano Maffulli ha tenuto un intervento all'Internet Hungary 2005, il più importante convegno ungherese per gli utenti internet. L'obiettivo del convegno erano le prospettive commerciali per l'industria della comunicazione e dei media. Il discorso di Stefano riguardava la libertà del software e del business.
6. Valtellinux a Caiolo (Italia)
FSFE ha preso parte all'incontro annuale degli utenti del Software Libero nella bellissima Valtellina, sulle Alpi italiane. Stefano Maffulli ha presentato la fellowship, e Alessandro Rubini ha parlato di GNU/Linux embedded.
7. Internetdagarna a Stoccolma (Svezia)
La fondazione svedese per le infrastrutture internet ha organizzato a Stoccolma la conferenza "Internetdagarna 2005". Sono state discusse diverse questioni nel corso della conferenza, compresa una discussione sulle politiche IT della Svezia e i pericoli del digital divide. Jonas Öberg ha partecipato alla conferenza.
8. Il messaggio politico della FSFE in Irlanda
Il rappresentante della FSFE a Bruxelles, Ciaran O'Riordan, ha tenuto il discorso di apertura all'annuale meeting generale del Linux User Group irlandese. O'Riordan ha parlato della recente legislazione riguardante i brevetti software, della nuova legge IPRED2, del lavoro della FSFE, e di come supportare la FSFE e le organizzazioni nazionali.
9. Georg Greve in Brasile
Durante un viaggio a Sao Paulo, Campinas e Manaus, Georg Greve ha preso parte al terzo Encontro de Software Livre do Amazonas (ESLAM) nel nord del Brasile: proponendo due interventi sul Software Libero e i pericoli che minacciano la libertà del software, ha preso parte con piacere a questa grandiosa conferenza, incontrando vecchi e nuovi amici nella locale comunità del Software Libero.
10. Real Networks abbandona la causa antitrust
Come previsto dall'accordo con Microsoft da 761 milioni di dollari, Real Networks ha abbandonato la sua causa antitrust contro Microsoft. Dopo la sanzione record di 500 milioni di euro, Microsoft ha speso quasi sei volte questa somma per indebolire il supporto di altre parti alla Commissione Europea. Le parti che sostengono la Commissione Europea sono ora soltanto due, tra cui la Free Software Foundation Europe. Questa causa dimostra in modo sempre più chiaro quanto sia importante che la FSFE sia indipendente e incorruttibile nelle sue posizioni.

11. Le nuove licenze Microsoft per il "sorgente condiviso"
Per qualche tempo Microsoft ha cercato di giocare sulla confusione generale tra "Open Source" e il suo programma "shared source". Ora ha rilasciato cinque licenze semplificate, due delle quali sono state attentamente esaminate dal Comitato per le Licenze della FSF: potrebbero essere compatibili col Software Libero, una addirittura lievemente Copyleft. Date alcune precedenti affermazioni di Microsoft sull'approccio Copyleft e in particolare la definizione della GNU GPL come "virale", "cancerogena" e "comunista", vedere ora Microsoft pubblicare licenze basate sugli stessi principi è alquanto sorprendente.
Naturalmente ci sono due interrogativi prima di iniziare a festeggiare: pubblicare una licenza non vuol dire molto se una parte significativa di software non è rilasciato sotto tale licenza, e sarebbe stato preferibile usare direttamente le più famose licenze Copyleft, la GNU General Public License (GPL) e la Lesser General Public License (LGPL) per il programma di "sorgente condiviso".
