in kerala hat Democratic Alliance for Knowledge Freedom ein lokale programmierer bezahlt (anil kumar kv), scribus für malayalam zu erweitern.

der code war nicht gut genug, um in scribus selber aufgenommen zu werden, der fork wird aber dafür gebraucht eine zeitung zu veröffentlichen (telugu daily... tbc).

vier jahre später arbeitet HOST (ein projekt für studienderende aus oman) daran, scribus für die arabische schrift zu erweitern

nach gut sech monate arbeit fliesst zurzeit ihren code im scribus ofiziellen code rein! damit wird möglich sein, weitere CTL (complex text layout) sprachen zu unterstützen.
aber es gibt noch arbeit zu erledigen, damit garantiert werden kann, dass alle diese sprachen korrekt gerenderet werden!

besonders an diese beide projekte ist, dass der freie quellcode ermöglicht hat, unabhängig vom ersteller (das scribus team), das programm zu erweitern.
es hat aber auch gezeigt, wie schwierig es ist, die qualitätsanprüche von einen kleine team von freiwillige gerecht zu werden! (in klartext: der code muss gut sein, das team kann aber nur sehr beschränkt helfen, guter code zu produzieren)
es gibt ähnliche beispiele mit open source schriftarten, die extra für minderheitsprachen entwickelt wurden.
