Hello
FSFE attempts to make 'Lernen wie die Profis' multilingual. Max already provided a pull request. Technically it seems to be quite easy. Is there anybody at FSFE-ZH who would like to volunteer? Maybe Alex?
Best regards Ralf

Hi Fani, hi Ralf,
I made a first proposal on turning this site into multi-language:
https://git.fsfe.org/fsfe-zh/lernenwiedieprofis.ch/pulls/1
It's very simple, no language switcher yet (as this would involve also changing the submoduled theme), and only a few pages. But it works surprisingly well.
Let's discuss further in the issue if you want. I take out the System Hackers as this is not really their area of tasks.
Best, Max

Hello team,
we have come to the conclusion that it is technically challenging to include translations in a campaing website made by a local group [1]. Neiter I nor the developer of the webste, Ralf, can do it. Before quitting the idea, I am sharing this information with you. I quote Ralf:
Providing translations isn't that easy for two reasons:
- The website is based on static website generator Hugo:
https://gohugo.io/%C2%A0https://gohugo.io/, which is fine for performance, privacy and security reasons. I've utilized the 'Terrassa' theme (https://themes.gohugo.io/themes/hugo-terrassa-theme/%C2%A0 https://themes.gohugo.io/themes/hugo-terrassa-theme/), that is not prepared for internationalization. I'm sure, the template could be adapted for multi-language support, but that is beyond my skills.
- The website is available at https://git.fsfe.org/fsfe-zh
https://git.fsfe.org/fsfe-zh, so anyone could adapt it for multi-language support and provide translations. It is just a question of skills and resource availability (as always :).
Would you be interested to help? Or, do you have any counter suggestions? Context: the FSFE Zurich local group created an initiative [1] aiming to bring Free Software in Education. This is the website we could ask our translators team to translate. FSFE Zurich received an award for this activity. [2]
Thanks for the advice and help.
Gretings,
Fani

Hi all!
FSFE attempts to make 'Lernen wie die Profis' multilingual.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Max already provided a pull request. Technically it seems to be quite easy. Is there anybody at FSFE-ZH who would like to volunteer?> Maybe Alex?
Once I am done with my four other FSFE-ZH tasks, I can take that on :) Only for the translation into English, however. Given that we're based in Switzerland, I'd consider translations into French and Italian fairly important, too.
Best, Alex
Hi Alex The translation is not the issue. It is rather turning the Hugo template to multilingual, where Max already provided a pull request. What is missing, is a language chooser. Max, please correct me, if I'm wrong. CheersRalf

I think there are three distinctive tasks:
1. Translate the content, which is mainly the .md files and the few strings in config.toml. 2. Add new languages in config.toml. My pull request shows that this is simple. 3. Create a language switcher. You can see on publiccode.eu how I did it once, but there may be more elegant solutions. The snippet I pasted in the PR basically just creates a list of available languages (configured in config.toml), now it's about placement, styling etc.

for this we can ask the kind help of volunteers in our Translators team*. They are very active, especially for English and Italian. If you decide that the website can become multi-lingual, I will need to know in what format should the translators provide their contributions. Then, I will contact them.
Thank you for your help!
Greetings,
Fani

If we manage to implement the language switcher, we'll take you up on your offer :)
