Die meisten Fellowship-Gruppen haben die Archive nur für Mitglieder der Liste zugänglich - nicht weil die besprochenen Inhalte top secret wären, sondern wohl eher, weil man, wenn man eine Aktion plant, nicht unbedingt will, dass die Pläne in der Diskussionsphase gleich mal von Google indiziert werden.
Falls hier die meisten denken, dass es besser wäre, ein öffentliches Archiv zu haben, stelle ich mich aber sicht nicht dagegen.

Eine Öffnung des Archives hätte den Vorteil, das Menschen die sich für unsere Arbeit Interessieren, schnell einen Überblick erhalten was läuft (oder auch nicht).
Transparenz finde ich grundsätzlich gut, auch in der Vorbereitung/Planung unserer Aktionen. Wenn etwas wirklich 'geheim' sein sollte kann es auch IRL oder off-list besprochen werden.

Ich denke das wir grundsätzlich gut ganz ohne private Liste auskommen. Momentan ist ja auch die Switzerland Liste privat, also falls es etwas geheimes gäbe könnte es dort diskutiert werden (wobei diese Liste noch toter ist als die zurich). Ich würde sogar soweit gehen auch die Switzerland Liste zu öffnen, oder den Prozess, wie man dort Mitglied werden kann, klar zu dokumentieren. Dort ist die Situation nämlich noch unbefriedigender. Als Mitlied muss man Vertreter eines Schweizerischen Vereins sein, der sich für Freie Software einsetzt. Ich selbst bin z.B. erst dort Mitglied geworden, nachdem wir den FrOSCamp Verein gegründet hatten.

Das Archiv ist ja jetzt eigentlich halb-oeffentlich. Wenn es jemanden wirklich interessieren sollte, was diskutiert wird, dann kann sich derjenige jederzeit auf die Mailingliste anmelden und dann ins Archiv schauen. So ist es ein Mittelweg, es ist zugaenglich, aber nicht ohne Aufwand einsehbar und wird nicht von Google & Co indexiert.
Mir persoenlich ist es egal ob das Archiv oeffentlich zugaenglich ist oder nicht.

Ich denke die Einstiegshürde ist recht hoch und kenne viele die das bisher auch bemängelt haben. Ausserdem finde ich, dass eine Indexierung durch Suchmaschinen auch helfen würde die Bekanntheit zu steigern.
